I love that Coyote has such a dual persona. In some myths, Coyote is the Lucifer type character, a trickster cast down from the other animal gods. In the Origin of the Tribes myth of the Chinook people, Coyote is a fierce warrior who battles a giant beaver and from the carcass of the evil monster creates all the nearby tribes.
In this myth, Coyote is deservedly revered. Their epic battle shapes all the nearby bodies of water. Only when he changes his shape into a tree branch and is swallowed by the beaver is he able to destroy him by gutting him inside out with a knife.
But what I love the most is the duality of the Coyote’s persona.
